The train crash for the feature film “Money Train” could not have been done any other way, at the time, than with a smaller scale physical model with heft and weight, careening through a scaled down subway tunnel. Fortunately we also captured footage of the set-up, so you can get a sense of how the shot was accomplished. The shot of Woody and Wesley climbing on top of the boxcar as the other cars begin to come off the rails was not done against greenscreen. The footage of the miniature train crash was projected on a screen behind them, as they climbed onto a set piece of the top of the train. My how times have changed!
